"i will definitely be watching for your new make-up line. i've been
diagnosed with early stage breast cancer and have been doing alot of
research on nutrition and skin care products. i've been appalled by
what i have found out is in the products that I have been using all my life.
the really sad thing is that most of us don't even know we are using
products that can hurt us. i'm spreading the word and my daughters and
granddaughter, as well as myself, will be using your product line from
here on out.
Thanks again for the information and for providing a much needed
line of products."

clean vs. not clean our products never contain synthetic ingredients.
most makeup does. the chemicals cited here have been linked to adverse reactions and/or long term and short term health concerns. these "substances to avoid" may or may not be found on makeup ingredient lists, because many are part of, or hidden in, other ingredients.
bismuth oxychloride
a synthetically prepared crystalline powder used in cosmetics as a filler, and to bind other ingredients.
bismuth oxychloride is shiny or pearlescent: most shimmered makeup gets that way from bismuth oxychloride.
the powder has to be forced into the pores (hence the popular buffing technique of one leading mineral makeup line), otherwise it is capable of sliding off the wearer's face. its heavy texture can result in clogged pores or irritated skin.
bismuth oxychloride's chemical composition is similar to that of arsenic.
phthalates
a family of industrial chemicals used as softeners in plastics and as flexible solvent molecules in cosmetics.
the european union has banned phthalates from all cosmetics.
researchers say that phthalates, which disrupt hormone function, may contribute to the rising incidence of uterine problems in women, testicular cancer in men and infertility in both sexes.
bone black
D&C black #3.
the FDA determined that the color additive used in face powder, eye shadow and mascara safe despite noted low levels of potentially carcinogenic polycylclic aromatic hydrocarbon impurities present.
due to this possibility, use levels are limited in products.
coal tar + lake dyes
dyes derived from coal tar and aluminum oxide ("aluminum lake colors") and can be absorbed into our bodies and stored in our organs and fatty tissues.
studies indicate that coal tar dyes can cause cancer in laboratory animals.
in addition, fd & c red no. 3 has been implicated in allergic reactions, thyroid tumors and chromosomal damage.
fd & c yellow no. 5 has been linked to allergic reactions, chromosomal damage, lymph and thyroid tumors.
the use of coal tar colors may cause such symptoms as nausea, headaches, skin problems, fatigue and mood swings in sensitive individuals. in patch testing, brilliant lake red "r" was linked to the clinical appearance of cosmetic dermatitis.
parabens + synthetic preservatives
a group of chemicals used as preservatives in cosmetics. public interest organizations which raise awareness about cosmetic ingredients believe that the safety of parabens needs to be studied further for their cancer-causing and estrogenic (hormone-disrupting) effects.
estrogens, phthalates and parabens can collect in body tissue over time and may slowly alter healthy cells.
talc
a mineral produced by the mining of talc rocks. data suggests that talc particles can cause tumors in the ovaries and lungs. (it is chemically related to the potent carcinogen asbestos.)
in 1973, the fda drafted a resolution that would limit the amount of asbestos-like fibers in cosmetic grade talc. however, no ruling was made and today, cosmetic grade talc remains non-regulated.
synthetic fragrance
hundreds of chemicals, enhancers and aroma fixatives — including benzene derivatives, aldehydes and other known sensitizers — may be included in makeup to give it a "pleasing" aroma. synthetic fragrance is one of the primary allergens in personal care products, and has been implicated in birth defects, cancer, respiratory problems, asthma, migraines, hyperactivity disorder, rashes and central nervous system disorders including depression and seizures.
these ingredients flow into the environment, polluting our waters, causing long-lasting and in some cases possibly irreversible biological damage.
the fda does not require companies to list synthetic fragrance chemicals on labels or to disclose them when you inquire.
